Elephant Folio, 54pp housed in rough purple cloth clamshell case with a gilt stamped black leather cover label. Poems for this edition was selected by Maya Angelou, with several LEC Livre d'Artiste edition of her own work as well. The book is illustrated by 6 silkscreen prints by Phoebe Beasley, who has twice been awarded the coveted Presidential Seal for her work. Her works avers a deep desire to express "the love and humor that comes from Black family life". Her work therefore captures the spirit of Langston Hughes's poetry perfectly. Four poems in the original French and the English translation printed in letterpress on textured Arches paper and printed by The Wild Carrot Press. The book includes 5 silkscreen prints from Lois Mailou Jones, one of America's most celebrated Black artist. Four of Senghor poems appears in this edition. Leopold Senghar became the first Black member ever induced into the French Academy. In 1960 he was elected the first president of Senegal and re-elected four times. As a poet, he represented the literary and artistic expression of the Black African experience. This volume is #171 of 300 and signed by both Senghar and Jones. The comic opera composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, illustrated with six multi-color woodblocks by the renowned artist Balthus. Cosi fan tutte is both Balthus's favorite opera from his favorite composer. While painting the artwork for this edition he listened to the opera over and over to complete emerge himself in Mozart's masterpiece. Included is 3 CD of the 1957 recording of the opera, conducted by Hans Rosbaud. Single volume at 19 x 18 inch and limited to 300 copies all signed by Balthus, this being #142 of 300. The solander box is in VG+ condition, with only defect some sunning and fading. The book is also VG+ or better with a small mark on the front cover, but internally clean and Fine. My Sister Life was written in the summer before the 1917 October Revolution, it was very well received and established him as a genius of Russian poetry. The English translation was done by Mark Rudman. The acclaimed Russian born artist, Yuro Kuyper provides 6 etchings for the publication, printed on Hannemule paper in Paris. The paper used for the text was hand-made by H. M. P. Mill in Connecticut to resemble the sort of stock produced in 1920's Russia, even incorporating bits of Russain newspapers with rags and cotton pulp. The book is in near fine condition, with the only defect being some sunning to the spinea. The slipcase in VG or better, showing some sunning. Revelation was written at the height of Christians prosecution by the Romans and the book as inspired many past literary masterpieces by the likes of Dante and Milton. For this edition the great American artist Allan Rohan Crite was inspired to produce fifteen relief engravings for possibly the ultimate illustrated edition of the book of Revelations. Revelations passionately speak against the power of evil and encourage Christians to resist even at the cost of martyrdom. Many critics considers this to be Crite's finest religious work. One volume (16 x 22 inches) Relief engravings were printed on Japanese paper and mounted on heavy paper handmade in Pescia Italy. Wynton Marsalis brings a 3rd dimension, who composed a 30min interpretation of Angelou's as a celebration of Jazz. A CD of the composition, which includes Maya Angelou reading her poem is included in a special compartment of the case. The book was very well received by critics, Michael Kimmelman from the New York Times, dedicated almost the entire front page of the April 26th 2002 edition to Mitchell's art. Corners bumped and rubbed with minor losses of leather, boards heavily subbed and scuffed, light staining to lower board, lower board creased, hinges loosely repaired. Text block edges soiled with light staining, edges toned, bookplate of Elwyn B.
