Octavo, 384pp. Red cloth, title in black print on spine and front cover. Stated "first edition" on copyright page with no mention of subsequent printings. Previous ownership blindstamp on last page of index. In publishers near fine dust jacket, retail price on front flap, touch of wear at bottom edge of spine, otherwise with bright illustrations and vibrant colors. (Burns, 0001) Inscribed on the half title by former President Harry S. Truman: "To William Sloat, kind regards from Harry Truman. 11-30-63." The author of this early biography on Harry Truman was the former administrative assistant and press secretary for President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Upon Roosevelt's death in 1945, he become the first press secretary for the Truman Administration.
