Stokes equations as an approximation to the Boltzmann equation.

His objection is warranted by the fact that the Navier - Stokes equations apply to a wider range of fluids than does the Boltzmann equation. We, however, restrict our attantion to gases, in which case the Euler equations, Navier - Stokes equa tions, and Burnett equations can be thought of as being extracted from the Boltzmann equation by the chapman-enskog procedure as given, for instance, in the cited reference.
