Kelly, Howard Atwood (1858-1943). Instruments for use through cylindrical rectal specula, with the patient in the knee-chest posture. Offprint from Annals of Surgery 37 (1903). 4pp. Text illustrations. 242 x 160 mm. Original printed wrappers, minor chipping to upper margin. Minor creasing, but very good. Stamp of the Johns Hopkins Hospital Library, dated Oct. 1903, on front wrapper.
First Edition, Offprint Issue. Kelly, one of the "Big Four" founding professors at Johns Hopkins Hospital, is credited with establishing gynecology as a true specialy. During his career at Hopkins Kelly created new surgical approaches to women's diseases and invented numerous medical and surgical devices, including those described in the present paper. Garrison-Morton 3526.
