The lectures discuss the difference between ancient and modern history, the magnitude of modern history, the transition to internal history, England after the revolution, and the credibility of history. Also with Arnold's inaugural lecture. Thomas Arnold was the headmaster of Ruby School from 1828 to 1841, and was also a historian. His most important work was his unfinished 'History of Rome'. Prize label to the front pastedown, 'd. d. Jac. Edv. C. Welldon. A.M. Schol. Harrow. Magister.'. In a signed diced calf binding. Externally, generally smart.
