[April][7.5x5.25in]; Light olive green cloth on covers with gilt lettering and maroon/blue illustrations on spine, front and rear, all edges trimmed, light green with maroon patterns endpapers; [10], 425 pp., [1], [2] advertisements, frontispiece and three color illustrations by Eric Pape; Self wear to edges and covers, spine slightly darken, rear hinge cracked, binding still tight. Mary Hunter Austin (1868-1934) was an American writer of the Southwest and best known for her first book in 1903, The Land of Little Rain. Of her 35 books over her writing career, this third book was her first novel. Set in Mexico, it is a mission romance novel of the mid 1800's.
