About This Item

UK,slim, oblong 12mo HB,no dw/dj,as issued, illustrated pop-up,1st thus.[Printed in Prague,Czech Republic, published by ARTIA,1983.Originally and first illustrated by Vojtech Kubasta 1971 by same publisher.] VG+. No owner insctpn and absence of publisher's price.Bright, crisp, clean, generally sharp-cornered,glossy/glazed boards with colour pictorial illustration with blue lettered title and illustrator's facsimile signature to front cover, black lettered title+ publisher to spine/backstrip and rear cover,alpha-numerical notation of PU 7 - 12 and ISBN 0709700490 to its top,left-hand corner and top edge. Negligible shelf-wear,bumping,creasing to edges and corners and no nicks, tears or splits present; contents bright, tight, clean. Only faults are the Sellotape repair to right-hand door of the pull tab on first pop-up,the pull-tabbed ogre's head is missing on 4th pop-up,and a glued repair to a feathered tear in vicinity og the harp on 5th pop-up - all other pop-ups complete, functional and without loss.5 double-page colour illustrations with 6 working pop-ups,a couple of them with pull tabs.all with accompanying text.
Visually the exterior appearance is exceptional, and even internally, the book is also in an exceptional condition/ state of preservation and presentation for a book of it's age and nature, i.e. a child's ephemeral pop-up and pull tab book.It is an acceptable copy for its functional, working pop-ups,and for its cleanliness and brightness.
Though a popular title, this is a less common issue/edn.See also my book ID rja1030022 for another similar, same title.
Vojtěch Kubašta (b. 7th Oct,1914 - d. ,1992) was a Czech architect and artist. In the 1950s-1960s,Vojtěch Kubašta,an Austrian-born paper engineer and illustrator working in Czechoslovakia, created a series of pop-up adventure and fantasy stories combining bold folk art style imagery, distinctive colours, and innovative cut and folded paper styles. Combining his artistic and architectural talents in the creation of the spatial,pop-up book,he not only draw them all,but he was also the author of the solution to the three-dimensional parts. He produced hundreds of pop-up books, and makers of pop-up books today still use Kubašta's structures and the principles he invented and used in his instantly recognisable and unique works.
