Beautiful silk fabric boards with minor soilage and then wear in lower corner. Missing the three dimensional doll that was attached to front board originally. Pages clean. Slight shake to hinge.

Paper pulled from the front free endpaper. Grift inscription in ink, sticker, and notes in pencil on the verso of the front free endpaper. The text appears unmarked. The front and rear hinges are cracked. The rest of the binding is shaken and split in areas, but it is still intact.

Delightfully illustrated in color and printed on one side only of paper that is still unopened at the top edge (one exception where someone opened one page carefully, leaving two blanks between the printed pages). Tan cloth with color illustration mounted on the front cover, decorated endpapers, about sixty pages. Some light cover soil, spine head chipped, good hinges, some rubbing to upper edge of book, clean pages with some very light finger soil to a few pages, no names or other markings. Story of a Japanese doll with unrequited love for a blonde, blue-eyed Caucasian doll. The Japanese doll finds happiness when he returns home to Japan to be with his own kind, rather than with in a land "where folks were so benighted" (unenlightened). The book first seems to support stereotypes and then exposes them for what they really are. . First Edition. Hard Cover. Fair. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Boston: H.M. Caldwell, 1906. Cloth has navy blue background with colorful Japanese flower motifs. Kimono-clad lady is kneeling on the terrace of a pagoda. Open fan and a crane in graceful flight adorn the covers as well. This copy lacks the porcelain doll which should be attached to the front cover. Printed on one side only on folded paper. A beautiful, bright copy.. First Edition. Color Illustrated Cloth.. Nearly Fine/No Jacket.. Square Octavo.

Ichimatsu ningyos (dolls) named after Kabuki actor, Sanogawa Ichimatsu of the Edo period famous for playing female rolls. He became a great favorite among women and ningyos such as this were made in his image. This book is seldom found with the original doll attached. This work is profusely illustrated throughout with numerous color drawings by the author. Minor age-wear on binding with spine slightly sunned. Minor age-toning along paper margin. Binding and interior in overall good+ to very good condition.

Unpaginated, with 23 chapters, each a page or two, with lovely color illustrations throughout. Condition: one side of box lid -- lower side -- detached, with closed tearing by other edges. Soil on the paper pastedown of the box. Doll on front cover is beheaded -- we have the head, though, and this can be inconspicuously repaired. Fabric of doll's kimono slightly frayed, worn-looking.
