Near Fine/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. 232pp, illustrated throughout, with some fine colour botanical plate illustrations, illustrated endpapers, decorative headbands. In strong green cloth-covered boards with gilt title. There is a small, black mark on the rear paste down endpaper. In its original dust jacket (with gentle shelf wear). Saviour of the Royal Botanic Garden at Kew, when the Government wanted to close it down to save money, and campaigner against the tax on glass, reporter on the Irish potato famine, Lindley is now best remembered as the foremost orchidologist of his day, whose work with and writings on Orchids have influenced thousands of gardeners, botanists and orchid growers to this day. 8vo
