About This Item

Seattle: The Mountaineers, 1997. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. 1997 First Printing of the First Mountaineers Edition (same size and format as the original 1995 English language edition). SIGNED by Achille Compagnoni and by Lino Lacedelli on the rear of the DJ on the image of them on the summit of K2 (first ascent of the great mountain). We obtained the signatures at mountain festivals in Italy that we visited. The book was too big and unwieldy to bring, but the DJ rolled in a sturdy tube was manageable. The book is signed on the title page by Kurt Diemberger. Diemberger's signature was obtained by us at a lecture he gave in Seattle promoting the book. K2 items signed by both Compagnoni and Lacedelli are very uncommon as they rarely appeared together at public events. The book measures 36cm tall x 25cm, and has 144 pages, 116 color & 38 b/w photos, 2 maps (1 is a large color modern topo), 2 drawings. The first big-size photo album in english devoted to K2, considered by many to be the world's greatest mountain. Full climbing history in photos & text from exploration period to 1994 season. Original blue boards, gilt lettering cover & spine. The book is in fine condition with no previous owner marks or writing on any pages other than the signatures, no foxing, clean, tight binding, never read since this was purchased by us directly from the publisher. The original dust jacket is in flawless condition. PHOTOS ARE OF THE ACTUAL BOOK BEING OFFERED.
