Kavik the Wolf Dog was the fourth book by Pacific Northwest author Walt Morey (1907-1992) and was the winner of the 1968 Dutton Animal Book Award. The illustrator, Peter Parnall (b. 1936), has had three of his illustrated books receive a Caldecott Honor and is known for his pen-and-ink work.
