About This Item

William Morrow & Co. Very Good in Good dust jacket. 1981. First Edition. Hardcover. First printing. 309 pp. Index. A clean, tight copy without markings. Light edge tone. The dust jacket is not price clipped but is worn along the edges. This is an intriguing more-than-a-cookbook, cookbook. Divided into 4 parts, Part 1 is dedicated to Food Politics. It is because of Burros investigative journalism that the food industry is more cautious (truthful?) in their labels. Part 2 is an offering of dozens of from-scratch meals, using real food that take about 30 minutes to prepare, start to finish. Each menu offers a staples and shopping list along with simple, straight-forward recipes, but my favorite part is the "Game Plan." In a nut-shell she lays the overall goal and plan for the specific menu in a time-line, love it! Part 3 is Hors D'Oeuvres and Desserts, and Part 4 is Prepare-Ahead Mixes, followed by the Index. Menus and recipes include American, Americanized international, and vegetarian dishes. Burros is a cookbook author and was a food columnist for the New York Times. She is credited for being among the first food writers in the 1970's to apply investigative journalistic standards to the field. In 1974, she was a founding member and first vice-president of the Association of Food Journalists, an organization formed to set standards of journalistic objectivity for food writers. ; 8vo .
