The Keepers of the House, Shirley Ann Grau. Published by The Franklin Library, Franklin Center, Pennsylvania, 1977. 8vo up to 9½" tall., 327pp.; illustrated by Muriel Wood. Full black leather with gilt titles to banded spine and gilt design front and rear; all edges gilt; moire endpapers with matching ribbon page marker. Smyth sewing and concealed muslin joints; printed on archival paper. Limited edition of the 1965 Pulitzer Prize for fiction. A beautiful copy in mint condition. The Franklin Library Pulitzer Prize Series was a limited edition series of the 53 Pulitzer Prizes awarded to Novels from the first in 1918 through 1979. The series was published from 1975 to 1980. Synopsis
Keepers of the House is the debut novel of Lisa St Aubin de Terán, published as The Long Way Home in the US. The novel is autobiographical and set in a Venezuelan valley beset by drought. First published in 1982 by Jonathan Cape it won the Somerset Maugham Award.
