About This Item
Kiev: Dnipro Publishers, 1977. First English-language Ukranian edition. The foreword by Matuzova -- who mistakenly asserts Lee practiced law after graduating Alabama State University and died in 1975 -- calls the novel "a tangible contribution to the cause of struggle ... against racial discrimination and for social justice .... [that] .... will forever belong in the treasure house of progressive American literature." Hear, hear. Colophon at rear refers to the USSR State Committee for Publishing, which controlled publishing, printing, the book trade and the ideological and political censorship of literature [Wikipedia]; however it is not immediately clear that the text of the book has been altered in anyway. 16mo; dark-pink paper boards printed in black, white and lime green on front, with illustration of a young, black man running; black cloth spine stamped in silver. Paperboards rubbed otherwise very good without dust jacket, presumably as issued. UKRANIAN EDITION
