About This Item

This is a stated first printing (1988) of The King of the Fields, a novel by Isaac Bashevis Singer (1903-1991), the Polish-American writer who is one of 13 American citizens to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. Singer wrote in Yiddish and had his work translated, usually by Saul Bellow.

It is a fictional exploration of primitive history, about an age of superstition and violence in a country emerging from the darkness of savagery.
