This collection of verses is devoted to the oppressed people in India, Africa, and China. The author, Hungarian poet Antal Hidas (1899-1980) lived in the USSR in 1925-1959. During The Great Purge he was arrested and imprisoned. Preface was prepared by Hungarian Communist journalist and sinologist Lajos Magyar (1891-1937/1940?). In 1922 he emigrated to the Soviet Union and served as deputy chief of the Oriental Secretariat of the Executive Committee of the Communist International. In the early 1930s he read lectures on problems of colonialism in the Institute of Red Professors. Magyar was arrested in 1935 and executed.These verses were translated by Alexander Room (1898-1943), a poet and translator, elder brother of Soviet film director Mikhail Room. The Russian translation was issued before the edition in Hungarian (also was published in the USSR). Cover was created by an artist Boris Prorokov (1911-1972), who studied at Vkhutein under Dmitriy Moor. This cover used for this edition only.
