About This Item

New York: Everest House. Very Good in Very Good dj. (c.1980). First Edition. Hardcover. 0896960749 . [solid copy, minor soiling to page edges, very light dampstain to bottom page corners (which has caused a very slight wrinkling to bottom of all pages throughout book), otherwise book shows only minimal wear; jacket moderately edgeworn, dampstain showing a bit along bottom edge of rear panel, some additional general soiling (mostly to rear panel), small open tear at top rear foldover, one tiny chip at base of spine]. Per the jacket blurb, this book was founded on "a short, atypical novel" by Austen, an epistolary tale which, although never completed, was published posthumously in 1871. "Adapting Jane Austen's characters and general storyline, and incorporating the letters into her swift and surprising plot, Phyllis Ann Karr has fashioned a most unusual Regency novel. Making no attempt to imitate Austen's style, Ms. Karr has instead used her own gifted imagination, scholarship, and writing talent to recreate with impeccable authenticity the romantic intrigues, scandals, and maneuverings for social status that characterized the Regency period." .
