About This Item
New York: Random House, 1956. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. 8vo., 144pp. Beautiful First Printing. Square tight and clean throughout with little or no wear. Perhaps a touch of toning on the board edges. Equally attractive unclipped wrapper, $2.95, has a bit of edge-wear but really quite minor and a tiny, 1/4" closed tear. But is fresh and bright with no creases or chipping. Remarkably well-preserved. A very pretty collectable copy of this adaption by Lilliam Hellman.

Anouilh seems to claim in the introduction that it's intended mainly as entertainment, but it does add historical insights unavailable elsewhere (as far as I know). For example: People like to talk about Joan as one of the inventors of nationalism, but was she also one of the inventors of humanism?
