A first edition copy of this historical work on Richard Whiting, the last abbot of Glastonbury, and his relation to the English court. Illustrated throughout. A first edition copy of this semi-biographical work on Richard Whiting, the last abbot of Glastonbury, written by Francis Aidan Gasquet, of the Order of St. Benedict. This work tells the story of Richard Whiting, and his relation to the dissolution of the monasteries in sixteenth-century England. Including fourteen plates and numerous other illustrations throughout. Also including a beautiful lithograph frontispiece by Bale & Son. In the publisher's original cloth binding with gilt crest on the front board. Externally, smart. Bumping to the corners and head and tail of spine. Some fading to the front board and minor shelf wear. Front joint starting but firm. Internally, binding tender. Pages contain the odd spots, especially to the first and last few pages, otherwise are clean. Good
