About This Item
London: The Richards Press Ltd., 1937. Cloth. Near Fine. 8" by 5". Not Stated. A later edition of this charming collection of the last poems of the beloved A. E. Housman. A later edition of this work in the publisher's original cloth binding. Alfred Edward Housman, the notable classical scholar and poet, compiled this collection of forty-two poems for his closest friend and unrequited love Moses Jackson, who was then dying. This anthology was first published in 1922, and greatly added to his reputation as a talented poet. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally in excellent edition, though the upper corner to the front board is a little bumped. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, except for light offsetting to the end papers. Near Fine
Synopsis
Housman's second and final publication, in which he continues his fatalistic theme begun in Shropshire Lad. Man's only response to such a cruel and dismal life is to bravely face it until death's release. While not as widely known and acclaimed as Shropshire Lad, Housman's command of the craft remains undeniable.
