About This Item

London: Collins, 1955. First edition. Cloth. Near Fine/Near Fine. 8.5" by 6". None. A smart first English edition of this biographical exploration of the life of T. E. Lawrence, complete with a clipped dust wrapper. This work explores the biographical background of T. E. Lawrence, also known as Lawrence of Arabia.Colonel Thomas Edward Lawrence (1888-1935) was a British army officer, diplomat and archaeologist renowned for the role he played during the Arab Revolt (1916-1918). The scope of his work and his writings inspired the nickname 'Lawrence of Arabia'. His autobiography 'Seven Pillars of Wisdom' was adapted into the film 'Lawrence of Arabia' in 1962.Penned by Richard Aldington, a writer and biographer of a number of works on Lawrence.A first English edition.Complete with an unclipped dust wrapper. With twelve illustrations, including a full plate frontispiece of the subject.Containing nineteen newspaper clippings on Lawrence from the 1950s. In the publisher's original full cloth binding with an unclipped dust wrapper. Externally lovely. Dust wrapper has two small tape repairs internally; it is a little worn to the head of the spine and extremities and a small tear to the tail of the cover, but is otherwise bright and clean. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with just the odd spot. Near Fine
