About This Item

Philadelphia, PA: John Bioren, 1810. Hardcover. Fair-. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, original 1810 publication in full leather binding. Exterior is in poor condition with leather darkened and brittle, both front and rear boards are barely hanging on by a single section of binder string. Spine is blackened and extremely brittle. Boards also show staining on both front and rear. The internal binding is in better shape with all text pages secure. Paper is darkened due to age and foxing and spotting is present throughout the worst being the end pages and pastedowns though some pages are also quite dark. First section of pages also contains a dark stain in the gutter. Only handwriting found in book is on the title page by the original owners name is penned in the upper left corner which appears to read "Jno Mellon". This page also has a small tear with a chip missing on the right outside edge. Rear pages has some dampstains present in the lower inside corner. An interesting piece of ephemera was found securely tucked between the pages. It is in original property tax statement from 1822 and measures approximately 7.5 inches long by 2.5 inches high. This small document reads as follows: "To Mr. Thomas Brown Esq. - SIR.... Your property is valued at $510. The rate per cent is 2 1/2 Mils on the Dollar. Your Tax for the present year is 1 Dollars 27 Cents. The Court of Appeal will be held at the house of Thomas M. Henry on the 26th day of March 1822. (Signed) Geo. Morrison, Assessor.". This slip of paper has been placed in an archival sleeve and will be included with the book. Note: this is the original publication from the 1800s and not a modern reprint. This is volume 4 only as each volume was published independent of each other and over a range of multiple years. Full title reads as Laws Of The Commonwealth Of Pennsylvania, From The Fourteenth Day of October, One Thousand Seven Hundred. Republished Under the Authority of the Legislature, with Notes and References. Vol. IV".

Terms of Sale

Yesterday's Book Shop (Member IOBA)

Purchases will ship by US Media Mail or Priority Mail (if buyer selects) and higher priced items may have insured placed on the order and will typically ship within one business day. Additional postage may be required for multiple volume books or books weighing over 5 lbs., but only in unusual cases. Insurance is available upon request though we normally place insurance on any item of $75 or higher at no additional cost to the buyer. Non-US sales will ship by First Class International or Global Priority. Additional postage may be required for multiple volume books or books weighing over 4 lbs.

We always take extra care in packaging and shipping. Books are typically wrapped in packing paper or bubblewrap before packaged in a sturdt shipping box. All orders, even those shipped by US Media Mail, will be given a USPS tracking number which will be sent to the buyer so they will know when to expect arrival. Please let us know if there is a book with incorrect or missing photos. We recently moved the inventory to Biblio and a title or two may have had issues with the photos being transferred over.

Yesterday's Book shop is owned and operated by a disabled veteran. Due to my limitations, I often have to rely on speech-to-text software to list the books. If the description has typos ("and pages" instead of "end pages", pace downs instead of pastedowns, guilt instead of gilt, etc,) PLEASE let me know so I can correct the listing. The software spells words by phonetics and can make errors that I may not catch.

There is a 30 day money back guarantee if the book arrives damaged or is not as described. Please contact us prior if you have any issues with your purchases and we will make sure you are taken care of.

About Yesterday's Book Shop (Member IOBA)

Yesterday's Book Shop is an independent, family-owned establishment. The store first opened in 1966 under the name Collector's Corner and was located in Western Maryland. The Collector's Corner dealt mainly in books but also sold stamps and assorted ephemera. In 1975 the name was changed to Yesterday's Book Shop when the store only offered books and printed matter. In the early 2000s the brick and mortar store was closed and now we only sell online.

All of the book pictures were taken at the time the book was listed and we never use generic or stock photos in any listing. If you would like additional photos or information on any listing please let us know and we will be more than happy to comply.
