About This Item
New York: The Legal Classics Library / Gryphon Editions, 1994. xvi, 431 pages. 8vo. A facsimile reprint of the scarce 1894 second edition. Beautifully bound in gilt-decorated blue leather; all edges gilt; marbled endpapers. Legal scholar and Federal judge John Forrest Dillon is most remembered for "Dillon's Rule," the legal principle that local governments are creation of states and have only those powers allowed by the state governments. Dillon first espoused the rule in an 1868 case and elaborated on it in the book MUNICIPAL CORPORATIONS in 1872. In 1907 the U. S. Supreme Court explicitly adopted "Dillon's Rule." The book offered here was Dillon's final book, written while he was the Storrs Pofessor of Law at Yale University. The book is in as-new condition.. First Edition Thus. Hardcover. Fine. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Book.
