Looks very nice on the shelf, very readable.). 3/4 leather with gilt embossed and decorated spine, five raised bands; marbled covers, flyleaves and page edges. xlviii, 481 pp., 84 BW woodcuts, 11 duotone etchings. Title on spine: Jameson's Legends of the Monastic Orders. "The Second Series of the Sacred and Legendary Art," originally begun by British writer Anna Brownell Jameson (1794-1860). Seeks to present and document the artistic depictions of the monks and monasteries across the centuries.
