About This Item

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1988. First edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. Edited by R.W.B. and Nancy Lewis. 24 pp. photographs and illustrations. R.W.B. Lewis, Wharton's Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer, and Nancy Lewis have selected approximately 400 letters for inclusion in this volume. Ranging from a letter written when Wharton was twelve to a note penned just a few days before her death, the collection shows wharton at her epistolary best and most characteristic and in all the striking variety of her many voices. Inscribed by both R.W.B. Lewis and Nancy Lewis on the title page. The dust jacket is price-clipped, with some mild, uneven fading to the rear panel; otherwise near fine. Inscribed By Editor.
