A very attractive and rare set. There seem to have been a number of editions issued in the 1902/03 period with this edition being the nicest. This being copy 6 of 20 numbered and registered copies. Each volume is separately numbered at the front and signed by the binder, Jackel and Co. NY. Each volume has a hand coloured frontispiece and a number of other high quality illustrations. Upon the death of FitzGerald in 1883, the editor recovered many of FitzGerald's writings to produce a possible publication. The author reprints here many of the letters FitzGerald wrote to friends and colleagues over many of the years of his life. A beautiful set by the author of the first and best-known English translator of The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam. 1903
