Book about the institutions of the Roman Catholic Church by the Belgian Jesuit theologian Francis Coster (Frans de Costere). Contains five books (parts), each one describing one part of the institutions of the Brotherhood of Our Blessed Lady (Illustere Lieve-Vrouwe-Broederschap), one of the most influential brotherhoods in Belgium during the 15th and 16th century. Extremly rare book. Worldcat locates only 5 copies of this edition of whom only 3 of them are printed in Antwerp like this one.

Pp.: (30) + 493 + (1). Size: 16 x 10,4 cm.

Binding: original vellum binding. Stains on the panels and spine. A few holes on the cover (visible on scans), bottom spine extreme damaged, parts of the velum covering are missing on the length of 5cm (present on the back cover and bottom spine extreme). Flyleaves show ink inscriptions (for details see scans) probably from the period of print judging by the fading of the ink.

Condition: minor stains within the textblock and a few wormholes. Pp.: 167-168 missing. Pp.: 111-112, 115-116, 119-120, 125-126 chipped top corner, Pp.: 117-118, 121-122 chipped bottom corner. Ink signature of the previous owner on the title page.
