Boston: Tappan and Bennet, 1842. Third edition, first printing, first issue. 12mo (16cm). Blindstamped brown cloth, titled in gilt on spine; pale yellow endpapers; [i]-viii [9]-156pp; frontispiece and wood engraving, p.14. Binder's ticket of H. Kitfield, Boston. Contemporary ownership inscription of Susan A. Adams, Cavendish, VT. Sound but rubbed, chipped at spine ends, and foxed: Good or better.

Early children's stories. The first two editions appeared in 1841. The binder's ticket in this copy may provide evidence against Clark's assumption that the edition was bound by Benjamin Bradley & CO. (p.77). CLARK A8.3.a1, binding variant B. Uncommon in the trade.
