About This Item
1876 ENORMOUS Civil War 1ed Forbes Illustrations Great Army Union Camp Life RARE
Following the Civil War, countless histories and accounts of the war were published throughout America. The most popular of these works were illustrated and none were more desirable than Edwin Forbes gigantic printing of 'Life Studies of the Great Army". Published in 1876, this double-folio was a collection of 40 exquisite engravings depicting scenes from the Civil War and American life in the 1860s. Interestingly, Forbes illustrates the mundane monotony the soldiers experienced with camp life, napping, and game play, while also showcasing battle formation and military exploits.
This work is also considered to be one of the most valuable of all Civil War era accounts of the war. In fact, individual engravings are known to sell for hundreds of dollars each! An impressive collection of enormous Civil War era illustrations.
