Half tone portraits and illustrations. Ownership inscriptions and other annotations by Lincoln chemistry professor, Arthur E. James. Near Fine condition.
1935 Yearbook for Lincoln University (Pennsylvania), the first degree-granting Black college (HBCU) in the United States. This copy owned by Lincoln University chemistry professor and author Arthur E. James with his ownership inscriptions on the front endpaper and at his faculty portrait. James has additionally inscribed and signed this copy for Lincoln graduate (Class of 1963) Brooks Morris of Chester County, Pennsylvania.
Notable graduates in the Class of 1935 include Federal judge Joseph Waddy (1911-1978); educator and one of the first three Black Eagle Scouts, B. Frank Coleman (1912-2008); and valedictorian James H. Robinson (1907-1972), "...an African American Presbyterian clergyman, who achieved world recognition for his work in New York's Harlem and his accomplishments in founding Operation Crossroads Africa, which served as one of the models for the Peace Corps."¹
Undergraduates seen within include Federal judge Barrington Parker (1915-1993) who presided over the criminal trial of President Ronald Reagan would-be assassin John Hinckley, Jr. and Albert Wheeler (1915-1994), the first Black mayor of Ann Arbor, Michigan.
