Protected by a Brodart clear-plastic sleeve (removed for photos). A bright, shiny, clean, square, tight copy of the uncommon first edition. Sharp corners. Pages are fresh, crisp, and unmarked. This book, handsomely illustrated by Maurice Sendak, was a Caldecott runner-up. This copy has all the first edition points of the Rosenbach copy, as identified by Hanrahan [in WORKS OF MAURICE SENDAK, 1947-1994], including: code "40-80" on the jacket's front inner flap; code "No. 0062P" on the jacket's rear panel; and "Harper & Brothers" on the front and back cover, as well as on the dust jacket [NOT "Harper & Row" which appears only in later printings, after the 1962 merger].
