Stokes, 1897. 4to, [52]pp. Blue quarter-cloth with color pictorial boards. 12 color plates and numerous line drawings printed in varying colors Edges rubbed and a bit worn, 3"x1" damp stain at lower right corner of front cover, light soiling to title, pages lightly aged with some slight hand soiling. Nonetheless, a very attractive copy with all color plates in clean, bright condition.
First edition. A wonderful collection of stories and poetry for children detailing a series of humorous examples of what would happen if children were to act like adults. Maud Humphrey, celebrated illustrator, suffragette, and mother to the actor Humphrey Bogart, captures the humor and precociousness of children pretending to be adults. A delightful late 19th century picture book.
