About This Item

Boston: From the Press of the Christian Examiner, 1828. Leather_bound. Near Fine. 6 x 8 1/2 inches. 368 pages. Bookplate of Elisabeth Fisher Everett inside front cover. Otherwise pages clean and free of marking, soiling or staining. All page edges gilt. Gilt bright. Bound in contemporary full black calf with gilt rolled borders to both boards and gilt dentelles. The spine has four (false) raised bands with gilt decoration, and additional gilt decoration at the head and tail of the spine. Spine also has gilt title ("Chapel Services"). Owner's name in gilt to front cover. Very light shelf wear to edges and corners. King's Chapel is the oldest church in America with continuous weekly worship services. Its liturgy is a unique hybrid that reflects this history, largely based upon the 1662 English Book of Common Prayer . A truly spectacular example of this scarce liturgical work in an unusually well decorated American binding.
