The "first book length history of magic" (see Coleman, Magic: a reference guide), that, despite errors, provided an important study of early magicians and their craft. This includes ancient magic of the Near East, as well as its use as entertainment in Europe. FAIR/GOOD condition. Ex-library with stamps, pastedowns and treatments present to the interior and exterior. Spine repaired with black binding tape. Some scuffing and fading. Extremities bumped and scuffed. Minor toning in the interior One gathering of pages slightly protruding from the rest of the text block but intact.
