Penguin Books, Harmondsworth, Middlesex, 1942. First Edition. Softcover (Saddle-stapled). Good Condition. Illustrator: Photographic and Illustrations. The text is illustrated with contemporary black-and-white photographs, plans and maps. Photographic paperback binding with black and white coloured titles to the front panel. Written at the height of the bombing of London during World War II, this small book looks at urban population and growth through history, and the need for planning for rebuilding of London once the war had finished. Creasing and rubbing to the book corners and rubbing of the panels along with some fine foxing. The staples which hold the book together have started to rust and there is noticeable rubbing along the spine edge. Sunning to the text block edges and age toning of the pages. Previous owners name to the top right hand corner of the front panel. The middle two pages of the book have become detached from the rest of the book  please see photograph.
