Illustrated with frontispiece and throughout with engravings and technical details. Also 28 plates of locomotives with specifications. Index. Book has been rebound in a library type binding, but does not have any typical x-library marks, two very small stickers on spine. Binding has some scuffs and wear, but is solid and square. Interior of the book is clean with very minor foxing at the end papers. Chapters include the early history of railroads in this country, the early history of locomotives in this country, history of locomotive building at the Rogers Locomotive and Machine Works, the organic development of the locomotive, the Rogers Locomotive and Machine Works in 1886, a remarkable run of 426.6 miles by Rogers' locomotives on the New York, West Shore & Buffalo Railway, the tractive power of locomotives. A rare book of locomotive history.
