About This Item
London: Herbert Jenkins Limited,, 1935. So complicated, so absurd, and so delicious First edition, first impression, in an uncommonly bright example of the dust jacket. The novel centres on the complicated love life of Sir Gregory Parsloe-Parsloe, who had previously appeared in Heavy Weather (1933). One contemporary reviewer wrote highly of the "uproarious and continuous fun which Mr Wodehouse contrives to cause in this most rollicking of his novels. Mr Wodehouse has never before given us anything so complicated, so absurd, and so delicious" (Aberdeen Press and Journal, 15 October 1935). This copy is in the orange cloth variant binding; copies were also bound in red cloth, and the two variants were issued without priority. Octavo. Original orange cloth, spine and front cover lettered in black, publisher's devices to spine and rear cover in black, 8 pp. publisher's advertisements at rear. With dust jacket. Spine ends lightly rubbed, edges slightly foxed, contents clean; dust jacket lightly rubbed and creased at extremities, a few tiny nicks and short closed tears, flaps without price as issued: a very good copy in very good dust jacket. Jasen, p. 54; McIlvaine A54a.
