About This Item
New York: The Colophon Corporation, 1991. Twentieth Anniversary Edition. Cloth. Very Fine/Very Fine. SIGNED boldly by the Author on the front free endpaper, 8vo, black cloth with gold lettering on spine and facsimile signature on front cover, Foreword by the Author to this 20th Anniversary edition of a Banned Novel, archival mylar-protected typgraphic dust jacket (unclipped) designed by Janice Rossi, 258 pages. Sol Stein (1926 - 2019) was the author of 13 books and was Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Stein and Day Publishers for 27 years. The Magician was first published in 1971 when it created a sensation, was banned, and eventually became a bestseller translated into several languages. It uses a violent assault in a high school to explore the wider issues of the time. It explores the reality that racism often outweighs the legal presumption of innocent until proven guilty. Here, the practice of law comes up starkly against the idea of justice. SIGNED and in EXCEPTIONAL CONDITION! A book of its time that has considerable significance today!
