A colourfully illustrated first edition copy of Margaret Tarrant's nursery rhyme book, with colour plates by the author herself. Scarce First Edition.Illustrations include sixteen full-page colour illustrations, as well as in-text drawings, both by the author herself. This is a lovely collection of children's nursery rhymes by celebrated children's author and illustrator Margaret Tarrant. Contents include well-loved rhymes such as 'Little Bo-Peep', 'See-Saw Margery Daw', 'Jack and Jill', and 'There was an old woman who lived in a shoe'.Margaret Winifred Tarrant (1888-1959) was an English illustrator and children's author, who wrote a range of books on fairy-tales and religion. She is best known for her illustrations for 'The Water Babies', which she drew and painted when she was only twenty years old. Collated, complete. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart. Minimal bumps to the head and tail of spine, as well as the extremities, with light fading and discolouration to the margins of boards and spine. A few marks to boards. Light spots to paste downs and endpapers, with light fading to endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean, with age-toning to margins of verso sides of pages, and the odd spot.
