Octavo. 6.25 x 9 in. xv, 393, [1] ad pp. Illustrated with frontispiece and 14 additional plates, as well as numerous in-text illustrations. Very good in original green cloth stamped in gilt with wear and rubbing to spine and extremities, endpapers renewed. Lowell's second published work on the red planet, containing his later disproven theories about Martian canals. His founding of the Lowell Observatory, in Flagstaff, AZ, began of the effort that led to the discovery of Pluto 14 years after his death.
