Concepito alla fine del 2010, MATTER nasce come collaborazione tra gli artisti Bill Sullivan e Matthew Gamber, insieme alla designer Mary Voorhees Meehan. Insieme allo scrittore Peter Hall e all'artista Jessica Eaton, il gruppo ha intrapreso la progettazione e la produzione di un libro di testo per svelare la sovrapposizione estetica tra arte e scienza. "Matter" è un'esplorazione interdisciplinare del rapporto tra fotografia e scienza. Il libro, che segue il formato originale della popolare serie Life Science Library, si concentra sull'idea del colore e su come lo vede una telecamera.
