DJ has light shelf-wear present to the DJ extremities. Previous owner's bookplate present to the reverse of the front board, blind stamp present to the title page. Text is clean and free of marks, binding tight and solid, boards clean with no wear present. During the early part of the twentieth century all the Mediterranean powers were transforming or at least expanding their navies from mere coastal defense forces to modern war machines, thus adding to a highly unstable political situation. The naval challenge of the Triple Alliance to Britain and especially to France was a serious one. Indeed, this study demonstrates that the Mediterranean situation had great influence on the plans and estimates of the British Admiralty.
