London: Chatto and Windus , 1880. Cloth. Very Good. 7.5" by 5". Lud Du Guernier . The new, illustrated, edition of this interesting account of Bartholomew Fair in London. A scarce new edition. In full rebacked cloth binding with gilt detail. With a frontispiece and numerous vignette engravings throughout. A comprehensive historical account of Bartholomew Fair, a charter fair that ran annually in London from 1133 to 1855. The fair was intended to fund the Priory of St Bartholomew. Henry Morley was an English academic and author who wrote many historical books and biographies of famous writers. With the publisher's advertisements to the rear of the book. In full rebacked cloth binding. Externally, very smart with some light marks to the boards. Some fraying and shelf wear to the edges. Small marks to the front paste-down. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages 135 - 138 are loosening, and there is rust around the binding to these pages. Pages generally bright and clean with some light age-toning and the occasional handling mark. Previous owner's ink signature, dated 1900 to the title page. Several pages throughout are uncut. Very Good
