About This Item

London: Rudolph Ackermann, 1851. Cloth. Very Good Indeed. 9.5" by 5". H. Alken; T. J. Rawlins. A copiously illustrated biography of the British eccentric and rake of the Regency period, John Mytton, in the publishers' original cloth binding. John Mytton, or 'Mad Jack' as he is more widely known, was Regency rake and Shropshire squire notorious for his hare-brained schemes, enormous wealth and mischievous and rebellious nature. Mytton was widely renowned for his love of hunting foxes in any kind of weather, and was even known to strip and hunt, even through snow drifts and rivers in full spate. This text details Mytton's love of hunting, shooting, driving, and racing, whilst also detailing his eccentric and extravagant exploits that earned him the title 'Mad Jack'. This text was written by Charles James Apperley, noteworthy for his hugely popular sports writing under the pseudonym of "Nimrod". Collated, complete with eighteen very attractive colour plates. In recased cloth binding with gilt detailing. Externally very smart. Minor shelfwear and rubbing only. Internally, the binding is strengthened in many areas, with minor strain in others. Pages bright and clean throughout, with the odd spot to the occasional page. Very Good Indeed
