About This Item

Washington [D.C.]: Printed by Gales & Seaton, 1835. First edition. Disbound. Removed from a lager volume, else about very good owner's name on title, scattered foxing.. 29 pp. 8vo. Jackson's unusually long address was mostly directed at France for its refusal to make payments of indemnity owed from the Napoleonic wars and to defend his earlier harsh words: ""The conception that it was my intention to menace or insult the Government of France is as unfounded as the attempt to extort from the fears of that nation what her sense of justice may deny would be vain and ridiculous."

Copy of H[enry] D[ilworth] Gilpin (April 14, 1801 - January 29, 1860) U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and later the 14th Attorney General of the United States.
