About This Item
This is the 9th novel (1996) by Peter Ackroyd, the English biographer, author and critic.
It is a story of conflict, treachery, hypocrisy and greed set in the New World and based on the premise that the poet John Milton fled from England prior to the restoration of Charles II in 1660 (Milton was also a civil servant under Oliver Cromwell).
This copy is an unread first edition. Still, there is a bookplate in it (a very attractive one) but that is easily removed. It's a smaller hardcover; 5 2/3" x 8 ¾". 277 pages. The only mark on it is the remainder of the glue from the price tag. It's pristine.
