About This Item
Contemporary blind-ruled half calf with gilt bands and title on the spine. A very rare work on the mining district and their principal minerals in Mexico by the German mineralogist and traveller Friedrich Traugott Sonneschmid (ca. 1763-1824).The work contains a diary of the author's travels through Mexico. In total he remained 12 years in the region, and he later (1810) published a work on mexican silver mining. In 1811-12 he published another work on the method of using quicksilver in the mining of silver and other precious metals in Mexico which was translated intSpanish in 1825 and reprinted, under a different title, in 1831. All his books are very rare. Stamps remnants on title page and a mark on spine, otherwise a very good clean copy of this rare work. Poggendorff II, pp. 959-960. Not in Ward & Carozzi.
