Edinburgh: William Blackwood and Sons, 1855. First Edition. Octavo. Half-title, frontispiece, 306pp., folding map outlined in color, 16pp. publisher's catalog at rear. The author traveled through North America and the United States traveling through those areas not well traveled to present conditions and prospects of the country and to convey some idea of those resources. He visited the great lakes, ventured through various Indian lands and cities and of course the wild west. Bound in pictorial gilt brown cloth , spine lettering gilt, brown coated endpapers, two signatures slightly sprung.
