Her introduction states that this book was compiled to give the greatest number of ideas and facts about the inside of the home. The book gives us a glimpse of the American domestic scene some 80 years ago, and one is surprised at the distance implied by the entries found in the book and what we know today. For example, under "Asbestos" it is suggested that we cut asbestos mats into a rectangle to make a good stand for an iron(!). The author says that you can whiten your arms with daily rubbing of lcut lemon on your skin. She suggests that Bobsleds can be made into a low seat in front of the fireplace with a pad covered with gay chintz. There are recipes as well: To keep skins tender in Baked Potatoes, rub with shortening before baking.This book is probably more entertaining than informative in this day and age. (2.8 JM 0732.
