About This Item

Paris: J. Lemonnyer, 1884. Hardcover. Near Fine. First edition, this is number 429 of 275 copies on Vergé de Holland (of 1000 copies total). Tall octavo. (4), 311, (1) pp. The illustrations, in Avril's charming idiom rather than his erotic one, serve as chapter head and tail-pieces, extra engraved title-page. Engraved armorial bookplate of Asa P. French on front pastedown as well as several clipped booksellers' descriptions of other copies. Somewhat later red three-quarter morocco, gilt, and marbled boards and endpapers, gilt title and ornaments between raised bands on spine, top edge gilt. Very good untrimmed copy, hinges starting. Erotic novel of a Turkish Harem and finding true love.
